My Story
My career has always revolved around people, places, and experiences. With a background in the travel industry, I've spent many years helping others discover new destinations, create memorable journeys, and navigate the world with confidence.
Travel is an industry built on relationships, communication, and human connection. Whether working with clients, suppliers, or partners across the globe, collaboration has always been at the heart of what I do.
Eight years ago, my working life changed significantly when I became a homeworker. Like many self-employed professionals, I embraced the flexibility, independence, and freedom that working from home provides. I could structure my day around my business, eliminate commuting, and create a working environment that suited my needs.
On paper, it seemed like the perfect solution.
The Reality of Working from Home
While working from home offers many advantages, there is another side that is often overlooked: loneliness.
As a self-employed professional, the responsibility for success rests entirely on your shoulders. There are no colleagues to share ideas with, no spontaneous conversations over coffee, and no office environment buzzing with energy and motivation.
Over time, I began to realise how much I missed the social interaction that comes naturally in a workplace. Days could pass with very little face-to-face contact, and although technology allows us to stay connected virtually, it isn't always a substitute for genuine human interaction.
Many homeworkers experience the same challenges. Isolation, lack of networking opportunities, reduced motivation, and blurred boundaries between work and personal life are common issues faced by freelancers, consultants, remote workers, and small business owners.

Discovering Coworking
Everything changed when I discovered coworking.
A coworking office provides a professional workspace shared by individuals from different industries and backgrounds. Rather than working alone at home, you become part of a community of like-minded professionals who understand both the rewards and challenges of self-employment.
The difference was immediate.
Being surrounded by other motivated people created a positive and productive atmosphere. Simple interactions throughout the day made a huge impact on my wellbeing. Conversations over coffee, exchanging ideas, and sharing experiences reminded me that running a business doesn't have to be a solitary journey.

The Benefits of Coworking
For anyone who works from home, coworking offers numerous advantages:

Increased Productivity
A dedicated workspace helps separate work from home life, making it easier to focus and maintain productivity throughout the day.

Reduced Isolation
One of the greatest benefits is the sense of community. Regular interaction with others can improve mental wellbeing and create a more enjoyable working experience.

Networking Opportunities
Coworking spaces bring together professionals from a wide range of industries. This creates opportunities to build relationships, collaborate on projects, and even generate new business.

Professional Environment
Meeting clients in a professional office setting can enhance credibility and create a stronger business presence.

Improved Work-Life Balance
Leaving home to work, even for part of the week, helps establish clear boundaries between professional and personal life.

Why It Matters
As remote working continues to grow, more people are discovering the freedom that comes with working independently. However, freedom shouldn't come at the cost of connection.
My experience has shown me that coworking offers the best of both worlds: the flexibility of self-employment combined with the community and support of a professional workplace.
For anyone who works from home and finds themselves feeling isolated, unmotivated, or disconnected, a coworking space may be exactly what you need. Sometimes, the most valuable part of a workspace isn't the desk or the Wi-Fi—it's the people around you.
After eight years of working from home, discovering coworking has been one of the most positive changes I've made to my professional life. It has reminded me that while self-employment may be independent, it doesn't have to be lonely.
